This link doesn't pass any juice and will not help with ranking:

<a href="somewebsite.com/some-page/" rel="nofollow">An Interesting Web Page</a>

This link does pass the link juice and says your site vouches for this site and helps with ranking in theory, but not always.

Google will not credit the target site in the link if a rel="nofollow" tag is included.

All links are follow by default so if the rel-tag is missing then credit will be passed so as such all links are follow unless the nofollow tag is added.

This does not instruct google to not visit the site or indeed index the target page, it just says your not giving a vote to the target site.

More and more sites now have all their external links as nofollow, All social media sites are nofollow. Most blogs and forums are as well. So finding links that offer a follow link is far more difficult and getting harder as time goes on.

It was introduced because of the abuse of backlinks by webmasters to attempt to fool Google into ranking a site higher than it should be.

Do-Follow:

By default, Do-follow links allow all search engines crawlers to follow them and reach our website. Providing us link juice and a backlink which helps getting website ranking. The best way to give someone do-follow link is allowing 'keyword' in the anchor text. Hence, when you are linking to any website or page, use the targeted keyword as anchor text.

An example of Do-follow Link:

<a href=”https://socialprachar.com”>Social Prachar</a>

All the hyperlinks are by default do-follow. You don’t have to do anything to make a link do-follow.

No-Follow:

No-follow links do not allow search engines bots or crawlers to follow link. Simply, if the website owner is linking back to you with nofollow, it does not pass on link juice thus no backlink to our website. Only Humans will be able to follow the links.

An example of Nofollow Link:

<a href=”https://socialprachar.com” rel=”nofollow”>Social Prachar</a>

Putting it simply...

rel="nofollow", basically means "no vote"

No rel attribute (meaning "dofollow") means Google will put the link towards consideration when ranking a webpage / domain in the SERPs.

Nofollow links are links with a rel=”nofollow” HTML tag applied to them. The nofollow tag tells search engines to ignore that link. Because nofollow links do not pass PageRank they likely don’t impact search engine rankings.

A dofollow link, strictly speaking, does not exist. Dofollow is just a link's default state. In other words, any link that lacks the nofollow attribute is a dofollow link. When another website links to yours using a standard (also known as dofollow) link, it can have an immediate impact on search engine rankings.

Ther are two types of links

  • Do Follow
  • No Follow

Do Follow links are those which passes link juice to another site and these links becomes more strong when it comes to Do follow contextual links. So you should focus on thses links in order to get ranking and visibility.

No Follow links that not passes link juice to other site, but it does not mean you totally neglect these NF links. you should consider them in order to maintain and looks your site natural in view of google.

Google has relatively recently changed their stance on nofollow and introduced UGC and Sponsored attributes as well. Now they will treat nofollow as a hint rather than a directive. So, nofollow links can and will start to pass some link Juice (and I think they actually have done for some time before this announcement too).

Dofollow links help your search engine rankings. Nofollow links don't. You see, Google and other search engines use links as a key ranking signal. However, they ONLY count dofollow links in their algorithm

Do follow links means getting the votes/authority of other websites where there are your website links present. Google considers this as trustworthy sign and ranks your website.

No, follow links means not getting above mentioned.

Dofollow backlinks and nofollow backlinks are two sorts of recognizing a connection and let Google know how to relate the site you are connecting to your site. Dofollow joins are a way of giving position to a site, while a nofollow interface doesn't pass on connect juice

Do Follow link is the process of passing link juice to the website. Not only Passes the link juice it give the authority over the site. No follow link  does not pass any link juice to the website.

SEO or search engine optimization is one of the most important and imperative knowledge that a website owner must have. Any kind of substance that you seek to put forth on the internet needs to rise in the search index of a search engine.

There are certain common words like noindex, nofollow, dofollow, and meta robots.

Matt Cutts and Jason Shellen introduced the concept of Nofollow back in the year 2005. Nofollow, an HTML attribute value, has the task of instructing bots in the program that the presence of a hyperlink isn’t affecting the ranking of the link target within the index of the search engine.
