Link juice from 301 redirect

Will it be a good seo techniques to do backlinking for a 301 redirect instead of original domain, if we are not sure that backlink was good or bad interms of seo. So in short I want to ask if negative link juice also passed to original domain along with good link juice? Please help me in this regard. Thanks

If a domain has a penalty, that penalty will also be transferred if you do a 301 direct.

Vet the domain before you redirect it.
