Should I optimize "/blog" folder in URL with a High volume keyword?

hi

I'm working towards building organic traffic for our new website through our blog. But facing a dilemma on whether it's a good idea to optimize the blog page URL with a high volume Keyword.

Is it a good idea to optimize eg. "www.visaxyz.com/blog" to "www.visaxyz.com/tourist-visa"?

Please advise what's the better thing to do.

I do always see the word "blog" as a wasted keyword. So in a sense, I do agree with your suggestion.

But the keyword you replace it with will need to be relevant and have a very broad meaning.

In your example above, the topics would always have to be about tourist visas. Which I assume would be quite restrictive, this approach is really attacking the small details - unless you're strictly writing about one topic, I'd just go with a generic term like /blog/, /news/ etc. I'd be more bothered about your internal linking to said page, use keyword-rich anchors opposed to just "blog".

Keyword rich internal linking is very often overlooked on a website. You also have the opportunity to mix up the keywords / phrase and not just repeat it across your site. This can add more meaning to the target pages. It's a technique often used for external links but there it looks spammy and can get you into trouble, on your own site though you can a fair amount of freedom to create these links without negatively affecting your site.

As suggested I would focus more on the internal links than the keywords in the URL. That has a minimal effect.
