SEMrush Sensor, what does it do?

I get the jist of what it does... it checks to see if Google has released any algorithm updates. But how does it know this? Does it use a Google API? How can the SEMrush sensor accurately know that Google updates are taking place?

It monitors the volatility in the SERPs.

Tracking is done through a variety of tools and data sources to give a reasonably accurate picture of how much search results are changing on any given day.

Interestingly, one of the major data providers is about to be closed down, which may well effect such tools.

Good advice?

Which provider?

Avast shut down Jump Shot. I know SEM Rush is not affected by it but some other providers are.
